Vote for a project in participatory budgeting! An Endorsement for Curling in the Spa City
By Dan De Federicis
I was quite honored that the proposal I submitted to the participatory budgeting committee for a pilot program to establish opportunities for Saratoga Springs residents to play the sport of curling was accepted. The curling proposal is one of the options for Saratoga Springs residents age 18 & over can vote on. You can start the voting process here.
I curled in the Albany Curling Club almost 20 years ago, and what an enjoyable experience I had. What I noted about curling was that it is an all-ages sports, from kids to senior citizens. In fact, it was the senior citizens that were the best in the league that I was in – they were so skilled and patient with their approach. With the rise of pickleball amongst all ages here in the Spa City, but especially with the 50+ crowd, it is obvious people here in Saratoga Springs are looking to be active. I believe having opportunites for curling, which takes more skills and effort than one might think, would be great for all active residents – especially during our long winter months.
So I am asking for a vote for Curling in your participatory budgeting ballot. You can start the voting process here. You can vote for up to 5 choices, so for you dog owners, the water fountain at the Saratoga Dog Park is another worthy choice so I would ask you to vote for that as well.
One final note, I have my web site to promote my idea here, but I don’t want to be unfair to the other choices on here. ALL of these choices are terrific and will benefit us. If anyone wishes to write something up supporting another choice, please do so and send it to me at dan@saratoga-report.com and I’ll post it the next day. Thank you.
