SARATOGA REPORT

JK Adams Now has a Satellite Store in Saratoga Springs

JK Adams, a Vermont based preeminent manufacturer of wooden cutting boards and other kitchen accessories, opened a satellite store in the Silverwood Galleries store on Broadway earlier this spring.  The compay has long held a loyal following of customers who appreciate the high-quality of its cutting board and other products.  “This is our 80th year and we are really proud that we are still manufacturing  in Dorset Vermont,” noted Director of Marketing Sean Osborne.  “I think that is a feat.”

The company, which started in 1944, originally made toys and surveying equipment.  The manufacture of cutting boards was an offshoot to put the scrap wood from the aforementioned products to good use. The company originally sold the boards for $1.00.   Demand for the boards grew, and at a point in the 1970s the company made a shift to predominantly manufacture them.  The current owner, Malcolm Cooper Jr. lives 2.5 miles from the company’s 40,000 square feet plant and 3,000 square feet flagship store in Dorset.  His father purchased the business just a few years after it was opened. In addition to the company’s manufactured products, the store sells homemade food and home décor items.

“All of our wood products come from sustainably sourced North American hardwood,” noted Osborne. “Considering the offshoring of American manufacturing over the years, we are proud that we pivoted over the years and responded to the market.”  He also noted that 10-15% of the hardwood comes from New York State.

The Saratoga location is the company’s third “shop in shop”.  They previously opened satellite stores in Danforth Pewter stores in both Manchester and Waterbury, VT.
