| On July 18, 2023 at GMP Farm in Schuylerville, New York, Robert Montano will put on a special performance of his Off-Broadway show “SMALL”. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys’ Fund (PDJF). Tickets are $250 and can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/664628209867 .
The acclaimed one-man show, written and performed by Montano, who went from riding racehorses to a successful acting and dancing career, will open at the Off-Broadway 59E59 Theatre and run from August 12- September 2. The show is produced by Penguin Rep Theatre and Chita Rivera, in association with Ted Snowden, Anthony and Abby Melfi, and The Flying Carpet Theatre Company. The Off-Broadway production team will be setting up the GMP Farm arena for the July 18 production.

The event will be emceed by Richard Migliore and begins at 4:30 pm with complimentary tours of GMP Farm. Where does a bullied 12-year-old who’s all of 4’6″ and 70lbs. go to find a place where he can feel strong, powerful, and respected? On the back of a thoroughbred racehorse, where being small is of the highest value. But when that small kid begins to grow, what lengths will he go to stay on the track? Robert Montano shares a roller-coaster autobiographical story of his transformation from a tiny, bullied Puerto Rican/ Italian boy who just wanted to dance, to an apprentice jockey learning the culture of the racetrack, to a professional rider, to self-destructive addict trying to maintain the rigorous demands of jockey life, and finally to Broadway and beyond.
