New Hampshire Company outlines new vision for Longfellow’s

Hay Creek Hotels of  New Hampshire, is part of an investment team that is about to purchase Longfellows Hotel & Restaurant on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, according to an article in The Albany Business Review (Subsciption required – starting at $4 for 4 weeks).

The company operates several boutique hotels in New England, the Carolinas, Nevada and elsehwhere.  Their properties include a former convent overlooking the Hudson River in Peekskill, as well as a 109 room Hilton Tapestry Hotel on Canandaigua Lake, near Rochester.

“We are not trying to put dots on a map and just add mass to the company,” Hay Creek senior vice president Dan Mahoney told The Business Review. “We don’t want a branded, neon-sign-type hotel. We are not a chain. We want to build on the legacy that Steve Sullivan has created there.”

The article reports that the company is working with Balzer & Tuck Architecture, The LA Group Landscape Architecture & Engineering and Bonacio Construction of Saratoga Springs. Bonacio Construction also will have an equity stake in the project.

It was also reported Executives from the company were meeting with nearby residents “to assure them the design will adhere closely to the existing footprint and their vision will blend into the pastoral and residential feel of the neighborhood.”

The article noted the purchase from current owners Steve Sullivan and business partner David Powers has not been completed yet and that The Saratoga Springs planning department is scheduled to begin site plan review in January.  Sullivan did not respond to the Business Review’s requests for comment, but the article noted he will continute operating the Olde Bryan Inn in Saratoga Springs.
